Abstract Noun Essay (Hate)
Hatred is one of mankind’s strongest, most passionate feelings. The things people do strictly because of hatred are unfathomable. People will dedicate their lives to making their enemy suffer. In some societies, people would trade their lives to die knowing they have killed their enemy. In fact, in some societies that idea is taught to children. It is encouraged. So what fuels this emotion that seems to be so overpowering? Why is it, that hatred is what runs the world? To answer that question, we must first define the word
Webster’s Dictionary defines hate as “intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury” According to this definition, hate is not just the opposite of love but something else entirely. It is not a synonym for the word “dislike”. When I think about this definition, I can almost feel the adrenaline rush through my veins. Hatred makes you grit your teeth and clench your fists. In fact there are many bodily functions that are related or traced back to hatred.
“Hatred is active, and envy passive dislike; there is but one step from envy to hate.”- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
This quote might help us define the word. Instead of it just being an emotion, it is an active human trait which controls not only the way we think but the also the way we act. What I found interesting about this quote is that it implies that for the most part, the source of hatred is envy. I personally disagree with that implication.
I found that very often the source of hatred can be love. In an experiment conducted by Dr. Zeki, people were asked who it is that they hated most. Many people chose ex-lovers. According to this experiment, when thinking of a loved one or hated one, there is activity in the medial frontal gyro. This is the same part of the brain that is overactive in OCD patients. It makes sense if you think about it. The persistence and obsession one has towards a loved one or an enemy very much resembles an OCD patient.
Hate is one of our most powerful emotions. In a way, it runs the world. Everyone has some hatred inside of them. It is how you control it that matters most. Use it as motivation and turn it into something positive. Hatred is a strange thing. You can spend your whole life trying to suppress it or even fight it, but in the long run, we can’t imagine what life would be like without it. Who knows? Maybe the world is better off with it

Hate Poem
What do you say to someone you hate
When all he has done is written your fate
All that he is, is there in his title
Principal of school, everyone’s idol
Basking in his glory, roaming his halls
Waiting for a student to grab by the balls
Sitting in his office, he formulates his plot
To ruin kid’s fun and kill their future while he’s hot
Won’t swallow his pride, its malignancy might kill him
He’ll spit it back at you and satisfaction will fill him
A fake smile present for every parent to see
“He’s a nice man” they’ll say as they hand him tuition fee
Sometimes he’ll greet you with a tip of a hat
Sometimes he’ll greet you with a baseball bat
If he was standing at the edge, I’d be tempted to throw ‘em
Cuz writing this won’t change much; it’s just a hate poem
